WHO AM I?

Please allow me to introduce myself: sports have always been a core aspect of my life. In elementary school, breaks were perfectly suited for playing football and organizing running contests. During the holidays, football remained the hobby of choice although running was substituted for cycling. Later on, during puberty, my interest in football faded away and was replaced with resistance training.

In 2017, I finally bought my first road bike (Merida Reacto 500 2017), which would turn out to become the love of my life, with all its ups and downs. Those downs, however, would eventually become the cause for pursuing education and a career in the field of nutrition; the hard way I learned that riding 45 km all-out with a tailwind on water alone was doable, but little did I realize that returning 45 km back into a headwind without any food would make me want to divorce from my Merida just as rapidly as I fell in love with it. As you may have guessed by now, that experience was my first encounter with "the man with the hammer", "hitting the wall", or "bonking". From that point on, I eagerly self-educated myself on carbohydrates, protein and fat in the sports setting, but this interest spoiled over into the clinical setting too. A burning passion arose and convinced me to enroll in formal nutrition education.

Four years later, I can claim the title of 'licensed dietitian' after completing the 3-year bachelor 'Nutrition and Dietetics' as well as Master of Science in Human Movement Sciences, specialization Sports and Nutrition, after a 1-year master's program. As of today, road cycling, resistance training and self-education with regards to nutrition through scientific literature are still some of my favorite activities to do during my spare time.

WHY THIS WEBSITE?

Well, it never ceases to amaze me how everyone — laymen, dietitians and scientists alike — is religiously devout to their perceptions about nutrition, but how few dare to question their beliefs and realize the reality and nuance of nutrition sciences. However, adequate nutritional knowledge is important as nutrition both fuels and builds us. Therefore, on this blog, expect to find passionately constructed, thought-provoking, qualitative articles that will elucidate questions and will not be mere repetition of the same information that you have seen before.
